Botox and fillers are not the same thing. Botox (a wrinkle relaxer) softens lines caused by muscle movement, like frown lines and crow’s feet. Dermal fillers restore lost volume and smooth static folds, like cheeks and smile lines. Many people use a little of both, but they solve different problems.
It is one of the most common mix-ups we hear at a consultation, and it is completely understandable. Both are quick, both are injectable, and both get lumped together as “getting work done.” But they do genuinely different jobs, and knowing the difference makes it much easier to picture what you actually want.
Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators. They gently relax the small muscles that crease the skin when you make expressions. That is why they work so well on the lines between your brows, across your forehead, and at the corners of your eyes. They are about softening movement, not adding volume.
Dermal fillers are usually hyaluronic acid, a substance your body already makes. Instead of relaxing muscle, they restore soft volume that fades over time, refreshing cheeks, smoothing the folds around the mouth, or subtly enhancing lips. The effect is there right away and settles over about two weeks.
Often the honest answer is “it depends, and maybe a little of both.” Lines that show up when you move your face tend to respond to relaxers. Areas that look flatter or more hollow at rest tend to respond to filler. The most natural results usually come from using a small amount of the right tool in the right place, not more of one thing.
That is exactly what a consultation is for. We look at your face at rest and in motion, listen to what actually bothers you, and build a conservative plan. If you only need a touch of one, we will tell you that.
